I have a book called “A Woman’s Journal” consisting of empty pages, each with a quote from a famous woman. The quote is meant to stir the reader to thoughts on the sentiments expressed. I have found the book both inspiring and instructive for clarifying my own thoughts. I share them with you, encouraging you to follow my lead and write your own “words of wisdom.” Clarity of thought is a great boon to a healthy and rewarding life.
“Life is to be lived. If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting. And you don’t do that by sitting around wondering about yourself.”
– Katherine Hepburn–American actress
“Sitting around wondering about yourself” as the great Kate put it, can be edifying if one is a capable thinker with a philosophical/psychological bent, and is doing the wondering in pursuit of authenticity. But all mental effort must fund action toward more abundant living or it is an idle exercise.
And what does it mean “to support oneself?” Surely, not only monetarily! We need to learn to emotionally and spiritually self-nurture ourselves as well. Stories of wealthy wastrels fill the annals of Time–those poor souls bankrupt of wisdom, wanting for meaning and purpose.
Yes, you had “bloody well better find” a way to support yourself that is interesting, and nourishing on all life’s fronts. Your diligence and resilience in so doing will save you from that scourge of irrelevance that sets in on those who wait for meaning and purpose to seek them out. Get on with it.
Your Path and Your Purpose await you, friend.
